An open plot of land adjacent to East Nashville's 5th & Main is under contract to purchase by a local investment firm. Their strategy is to buy and hold the lot until the market comes to them. The article points out the difficulty in finding land to develop in the downtown Nashville area. The desirability to live, work, and build near downtown areas is very strong in many major cities, so I do believe that the potential is there for this future build site. Although 5th & Main took awhile to fully take off, the real estate market and economic timing of the project played a huge role in that. It is now nearly 95% sold, and I'm glad to see that for the community. Being an East Nashville fan, I am all for preserving what is cool about the east side... the artistic/musician/locally owned hipness of the community. Even though technically this site is within the bounds of what is considered East Nashville, I think this is just as much a downtown area as it is East Nashville, and do think the potential is there for a great mixed-use development.
What are your thoughts? Is there anything you would like to see in this lot in the future?
